When my father received the diagnosis of Kennedy’s disease back in 2009, the full extent of the challenges ahead didn't sink in immediately. But as the years passed, his muscle weakness progressed, making it increasingly difficult for him to walk independently. This placed a significant strain on my parents' relationship, as my father's inability to work led to financial struggles, tension, and frequent arguments that took a toll on my mental well-being.

Throughout my childhood, I took on responsibilities such as assisting my dad with walking, cooking, and managing daily tasks. These experiences taught me valuable lessons in empathy and resilience, shaping me into a compassionate and determined individual. However, juggling these caregiving duties with my own life events and opportunities sometimes left me feeling overwhelmed and resentful.

The tipping point came in September 2021 when I finally broke down and confided in my mother about the anxiety I had been suppressing. Opening up allowed me to release pent-up emotions and strengthened my bond with her. It also taught me the importance of seeking support and not shouldering burdens alone. This experience fueled my commitment to personal growth and helping others in their time of need.

Despite the challenges at home, I remained focused on my academic goals, using school as an outlet for learning and personal development. Engaging in extracurricular activities provided both distraction and fulfillment, helping me cope with the stresses of home life.

As I matured, I gained independence and earned the respect of adults for my maturity and resilience. Reflecting on these experiences, I now see how they have shaped my sense of responsibility and personal growth. Despite the conflicts within my family, my evolving relationship with my parents demonstrates my commitment to understanding and empathy.

I've learned that it's okay to struggle and to ask for help when needed. Transitioning into high school underscored the importance of vulnerability and self-acceptance, paving the way for further growth and self-discovery in the years to come.
