All my life, I always felt like I didn't fit in. After becoming a teenager, I didn't try making a long-term group of friends because I thought I wouldn't be staying there for long anyway. I have two adventurous parents who always traveled and lived abroad. My father lived in Japan for seven years, and my mother lived in Italy for five. They were always open to new experiences. Even though I am only 15 years old, I have lived in three states and visited 17 states. What I found fascinating is how different people are on the East and West Coasts.

Even though I was born in Seattle, I barely remember much because we left when I was eight, but I often think about the vibrant culture and natural beauty. California was great because I really got to spend quality time with both sets of my grandparents and enjoy the warm weather, although I was not crazy about the LA traffic. Living in Connecticut felt very different, and I definitely was not used to the cold climate. I explored most of the states in the New England region and was amazed at seeing many of the things I learned in history in person. I had farm-to-table food and visited Ben and Jerry’s Factory in Vermont. I went to the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, the Whale Museum in Nantucket, and the mansions of the super wealthy in Rhode Island, among many other sights.

The most important thing I have learned through my travels is how to become adaptable and open to new people and things. Life is never as I expected. I complained to my parents about moving so much, missing my friends, and always going to new schools when I wasn’t ready to leave. I considered myself "unlucky" for always being on the go and not settling into a town where I could have long-term friendships. Looking back, I realize I never missed anything but gained so much more. I met many more friends who I can visit. I have a new appreciation for this country and all the sacrifices people have made for our freedom. I would like to learn about international business, and hopefully, it will take me all over the world and expand my experiences internationally.
